Sumter Regional Hospital, South Georgia Technical College team up for Charity Basketball Game
In recognition of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sumter Regional Hospital and South Georgia Technical College are teaming up to raise money and awareness.
The two organizations will compete in a charity basketball contest that will match a group of All-Stars from Sumter Regional Hospital against the South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets basketball team. The game is set for Thursday, October 27th at 7:30 pm and will take place at the Americus-Sumter High School South Campus Gym on 805 Harrold Avenue (Old Americus High School). Tickets are $2 and will be sold the day of the game. Current Americus resident and world-ranked discus thrower Carl Brown will be sponsoring the halftime entertainment. Halftime entertainment will include a chance for one lucky fan to win $100 in a basketball shooting contest and a performance from the Nancy Jones School of Dance.
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death for women in the United States, and it affects males as well, said Marcus Johnson, SRH Director of Marketing & PR. We are excited that the South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets have agreed to participate in this very worthwhile event, because the odds are that most of us will be touched by breast cancer in some way. The game should be exciting and fun to watch, but most importantly we will be raising awareness and monies for a very important cause in our community.
Sumter Regional Hospital is also offering mammograms for a reduced rate of $75 and a mammogram/bone density scan combo for $150 during the entire month of October. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call (229) 931-1375.
