Americus, GA (Saturday, October 11, 2008) � Despite the threat of rain and even some sprinkles, more than 400 people turned out for Sumter Regional Hospital�s 5th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. �We are very pleased with the turnout, especially with the threat of rain and knowing that so many activities and events happen in October,� said SRH Vice President of External Operations & Marketing Comfort Green. �This is one of the largest groups we have had since we started the walk five years ago, and we are so thankful that so many people came out to support this very important cause. We have at least 6 breast cancer survivors here at Sumter Regional alone, so we know how devastating breast cancer can be to not only the person but to their family as well. That�s why we consider this event one of the most important things we do each year� �As always, our goal for the walk was to raise awareness for breast cancer and hopefully prompt people into action in regards to self-breast examinations, mammograms or just supporting a friend or loved one who has been diagnosed with breast cancer,� said Green. �We want to continue to urge all women over 35 and those with family history of breast cancer to sign up for a mammogram, and if you are not in the risk category to continue to do self-breast examinations,� said Green. �Prevention is the best defense against breast cancer, and these are the best ways to do just that.� Green stated that the hospital wanted to thank of all of their sponsors and everyone who came out for the walk. �Without the sponsors and the participants this event would not be a success three years running, and we definitely appreciate them. Most important, we thank the breast cancer survivors and their families for coming out and showing us that we can win this fight against breast cancer.� Sumter Regional Hospital is currently offering mammograms for a reduced price for the month of October.
