Introduction
By A. Gatewood Dudley, MD
The Cancer Program at Sumter Regional Hospital continues to grow
to meet the cancer needs of the citizens of this region. In
cooperation with The Phoebe Cancer Center, we offer a wide
range of cancer services to our patients. Our medical oncology
clinic continues to grow in both number of patients and added
services. Because of increased demand, Dr. Robert Krywicki,
a Medical Oncologist from the Phoebe Cancer Center joined
Dr. John Duelge to expanding our services. Patients can now
be seen by an oncologist twice a week in the clinic. Also
in 2000 our cancer support group began meeting twice a month
to better meet the needs of patients and their families. Hospice
of Americus and Sumter County has added more staff because
of the increasing number of clients requiring services.
We are now working toward re-approval from The American College
of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. Approval from The College
shows that we meet the quality of patient care through a multidisciplinary
approach. On behalf of the Cancer Committee at Sumter Regional
Hospital, I am pleased to present the 2001 Oncology Annual
Report.
